Terrebonne 4-H

A highly active youth development program under the LSU AgCenter — home to one of the largest shooting sports projects in the parish.

Terrebonne Parish 4-H is a highly active youth development program under the LSU AgCenter, serving hundreds of students from 4th through 12th grade. The program follows a "learn by doing" philosophy, focusing on leadership, citizenship, and life skills.

Project Clubs & Specialty Programs

Shooting Sports — One of the largest projects in the parish. It includes archery, shotgun, rifle, and hunting skills. Terrebonne often practices in coordination with Lafourche Parish 4-H.
Livestock & Poultry — The Parish Livestock Show typically occurs in mid-January (held at the Assumption Parish Ag Complex in 2026).
- A dedicated Poultry Show is held in February at the 4-H Office.
Junior Leaders — A club for older students (grades 7–12) that emphasizes community service. One of their signature 2026 projects is "Layers of Love," where members create fleece blankets for local people in need.
Art Contest — A popular non-live contest where members submit paintings, drawings, and recycled art to the 4-H office by late April.

Administration & Enrollment

The 4-H Office — Located at 876 Verret Street, Houma, LA 70360.
Communication — The parish publishes a monthly newsletter called the "Cajun Chronicles," which outlines upcoming deadlines for project books and portfolios.
Enrollment — Most members join through their school-based clubs, but there is a Terrebonne Homeschool Club that is very active and frequently wins parish-wide display and spirit contests.
